Outermost of. the
terrestrial planets. About 70 per cent of the Martian surface is reddish or
yellowish blue. Apart from the Earth. Mars probably provides a better abode for
life than any planet in the solar system. Even so the prospect is not pleasant:
atmospheric pressure is much lower than a top Mount Everest; average
temperature is very low; a desert like surface exists in most places with
occasionally vigorous sand storms, and water a commodity very hard to come by.
There is no, evidence for the presence on Mars of less hardy flora or fauna.
Phobos and Deimos are two tiny satellites of Mars.
