     One of the most important aims of the education is to enable the students to express themselves correctly and adequately. College magazines are very important in this respect. A college magazine encourages the students to express their literary talent.

     Generally speaking, a college magazine publishes stories. poems and articles written by students. It is edited by students themselves with some help from the staff members. Apart from the articles of the students, report of the literary and cultural activities of the college are published in the magazine.

     Most of the college magazine are bilingual. that is they contain two sections - Urdu and English. Each of the sections is a collection of articles, stories poems and a couple of addresses and speeches. The Urdu section is always bigger in volume than the English section as it is easier for the students to write in Urdu. Only a few students write in English. The standard of Urdu section is higher than that of the English section.

      It is customary for the editors of a college magazine to say in the foreword that the articles received for publication have been to poorly written to be published word for word. This means that most of the articles we find in a college magazine have been rewritten or at least, extensively edited by the teachers.

     The college magazine can be of great service to the student writer. If the students who aspire to be writers, regularly contribute to the college magazine, they will soon learn the art of writing. The teachers of the college are always available for helping and guiding the student writers. 

     The students of a college magazine is naturally not very high. We must remember that a college magazine is the magazine of those who are learning to be writers. They have their faults. but they have their promise too. Soon some of them will become accomplished writers and the leading magazines and newspapers of the country will gladly publish their work.

     We a party of five boys, all intimate friends, decided to go up a hill side on a moonlit night. After taking our evening meals we gathered near Dilkusha Hotel, from where we went to an adjoining hill.

     As we began to go up. the moon was shedding its silvery beams and a calm atmosphere prevailed all round. In the perfect stillness, we did not utter a word... so enchanted we were by the fascinating beauty of the moon and the few stars that winked here and there in the clear blue sky! Slowly and gradually, we reached the top of the hill. The scenic beauty here was all the more charming and captivating. As far as the eye could reach, nothing but green verdure could be seen. Not a blade of grass stirred to break the spell of the prevailing silence. 

     We sat down on green grass. A light breeze sprang up. Soon specks of clouds began to appear in the sky and lo! the moon was hidden behind the clouds. Soon after, it reappeared with glorious brightness. It was indeed a sight worth beholding. We sat quietly for some minutes and seemed to be imbibing deep from the lap of mother nature.

     After resting a while we began to move about. We observed pine trees and collected wild flowers and wild berries. We had hardly gone about a mile or so when Arshad wanted us not to proceed any further. lest we should come across a wild beast. So we retraced our baskets of fruit and cold drinks. We enjoyed them and lay down to rest. Our games, stories and singing went far into the night. Then sleep overcame us, and all with my solitary exception. were lulled to sleep Call me a cowardly fellow if you will, I could not have wink of sleep a strange fear haunted me!

     It must have been past midnight when I heard a rustling sound coming towards us. I was all ears. It got nearer and nearer. A heavy breathing sound was clearly audible.I at once thought. it was a bear. I raised an alarm. My companions were up all at once. Amjad had taken good care to bring his gun. He at once loaded it. The wild beast for all our shouting and screaming was heading straight towards us. Amjad fired and the bear lay down in a heap.

     Sleep forsook us now. In fact we did not have the courage to sleep. So we decided to have a bit of boating in the lake below. We went on paddling for some time. Amjad who is an expert angler. threw his line in the crystal clear water of the lake. Fortune did not seem to dawn there were some movements in the still water. Soon there was tugging and pulling. Amjad whisspered to observe complete silence. We held our breaths as it were. and watched him with keen interest. The fish was a very big one and it made frantic efforts to escape. Amjad struggled for a long time and at long last succeeded in landing the fish It weighed twenty pounds.

     Now we paddled back the boat to the bank. We enjoyed the sight of the rising sun and returned home cold and tired and were glad to get to bed.
