Magna Carta:
- It was a Chart of Rights signed by King John of England in 1215. English barons were fed up with the King's unsuccessful and costly wars with France. They resented the King's power of extorting taxes. They forced the king to sign the charter called Magna Carta. It guaranteed trial by Jury and freedom from arbitrary arrest and imprisonment. It applied only to free men when most of the population were not free.
